Pyramid of Interventions for Students Experiencing Academic and/or Personal Problems
The Pyramid of Interventions is the model through which Manchester University provides academic and personal support services to students. Specifically, the Pyramid of Interventions provides four tiers or levels designed to support a wide range of student needs at the campus-wide, targeted and individual levels.
Tier I: Faculty provides instruction through lecture, lab exercises, and off-campus learning experiences. Faculty is available to meet with small groups and individual students during office hours. Faculty monitors progress of individual students and makes a referral to the academic advisor when concerned about student’s progress and/or well-being. Faculty may refer student to the Success Center for tutorial study tables, academic support, and/or assistance with writing papers. If concerns about student(s) prevail after attempts have been made to meet and remediate the problems faculty may make a referral to SuccessNet.
Tier II: Academic advisors meet with individual students to monitor success and progress. Academic advisors may refer students to the Success Center for tutorial study tables, academic support, and/or assistance with writing papers. If concerns about student(s) persist after attempts have been made to meet and remediate the problems academic advisors may make a referral to SuccessNet.
Tier IV: SuccessNet team members will acknowledge referral and begin intervention on behalf of the student. All referrals made are secure and can only be viewed by the members of SuccessNet. Referrals for specialized services and support services may be made dependent upon the seriousness of the concern.
Manchester University students and parents may make referrals to SuccessNet on behalf of a student who is experiencing academic and/or personal problems.
